New Server

Almost two years ago, we moved out of the condo and into a house. The server came along with us, but ultimately the compute stick just wouldn’t cut it anymore. I loved having a server with such minimal power draw, so eventually I decided upon an Intel NUC.

Hardware specs are quite decent: Intel 10th gen Intel i7-10710U (6C/12T) @ 4.7 GHz, 64GB DDR4 @ 2666MHz, 1TB NVMe PCIe gen 3×4 (2280), and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, all running on Microsoft Server 2019 Standard.

Migration

The old Core2-Quad was using too much power, so I have begun migrating everything to a new server – an ASUS TS10 VivoStick PC (compute stick).

The TS10 has a quad-core Intel Atom x5-Z8350 @ 1.67 GHz (specs show 1.44GHz, but mine has turbo’d faster), 2GB LPDDR3 RAM @ 1600mhz, 32GB internal storage, and integrated Intel HD Graphics 400 .  Amazingly, running full-blown Server 2016 Standard.

Full Swing

Here we are in the condo, and the renovation is in full swing: cabinets, counters, floors, ceilings, lighting, networking… the works.    As things are getting done, expect this little server to take a few breaks — the site will be offline from time to time.

Hopefully within the next few weeks, everything will be complete; and perhaps I’ll post some pictures.

The Passage of Time.

I’ve lived at this apartment complex for nearly 10 years. Altimari.net came online within these walls. I’ve hosted friends, family, and visitors across the globe — some physically in my home, others via this web site; my little space on the web.

In the next few weeks, we will be moving to our new condo. As such, Altimari.net and all other hosted sites will be offline for a brief period.

I shall remember the lessons of past decade well, while looking ahead to the next chapter, eager to see what shall unfold; and throughout this journey, I’ll continue to occasionally sit for a spell, here at this place where I carve my initials on tree of the internet.

Hardware Update

A few months ago, the power supply in the server failed. So, I got a new case. It’s on the larger side for a mini-ITX build, however this case can take a full-size PSU! So, our little HTPC server is running on a continuous-550 watt PSU. All of this allowed for a modest GPU ugrade, to an extra Radeon 7950 that was hanging out.

Looks like this will be the last upgrade for this old system… unless I can get two 4GB sticks of DDR2 RAM, which would put this at 8GB RAM… for less than 75 bucks. Probably not gonna happen. =(

So, here you are.

Welcome to Altimari.net, my tiny corner of the internet. Over here on the left, you will see TheDucks.Altimari.net.  They’re so funny, just quacking around.

Indeed, you have stumbled upon my humble contribution to the internet; a modest personal home theater/gaming PC that also happens to be a web server.   Occasionally, I may discover new enjoyable ways to litter the internet.  Check back or don’t.
